As well as all the dates listed below, our local IWA Branch holds many varied and interesting events, most of which raise funds to help us to restore our canals. They are a great bunch and deserve our support. You might also like to consider joining the IWA, as this too helps fund our restoration. Summer Tours of Shrewsbury Flaxmill

Over the next few months we will be offering free tours of the Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings, covering the history of the buildings,
the flax and maltings processes and the renovation works which are currently in progress.

This will be a rare opportunity to go inside the buildings, possibly the last chance to see inside before the work finishes in 2021.
Tours will be taking place on Saturday afternoons on the 7th & 21st of July and the 4th and 18th of August.

IWA Walk at Granville Park, Telford led by Alistair Price

The Walk.

The walk will follow various footpaths and bridleways through Granville Country Park, starting at the car park of Granville Road. We will walk sections of the Donnington Wood Tub Boat canal one of the earliest canals built in this country. We will explore some of the industrial history of the North East of Telford, discuss the legacy of Granville Leverson Gower and time permitting look at the ruins of Mines, a canal basin, early furnaces, pumping house and winding house for Muxton coal mine.

Paths are well used with some gentle gradients but can be a little muddy after rain. We will walk at a gentle pace with frequent stops and chances to explore the ruins.

The start.

The walk will start from the car park of Granville Road. To reach this car park from the M54 leave at Junction 4 and head north along the A4640 to Red Hill. At Red Hill continue over the first island and travel downhill over the second island to Granville Island. (This is the island with Asda Supermarket). Take the third exit, a right turn. About ½ mile along this road, look for the car park on the left where we will meet.

Start time for the walk is 10.00 am. The walk will take between 2 and 2 ½ hours including stops.

SNCT members are welcome to join this walk, but please let Alistair Price know if you are coming.  Email him.

Get Well Soon

All is not well at St Monica’s Hospital. They’re on life support; facing bugs, bed-blockers and a battle to save A and E.

70 years ago, Nye Bevan gave us free healthcare for all.
Can his dream survive the demands and pressures of the 21st century?
Can Nurse Danuta save the day with her Polish pastries and proverbs?

With tunes, transfusions and titters, join Mikron as they make a surgical strike on the state of our NHS.

The Mikron Theatre Company annually commission two scripts with original music, that they perform ‘in rep’ touring by road in Spring and Autumn and, in Summer, on board their historic narrowboat, Tyseley. They are the only company to tour professional theatre to canal and riverside venues by inland waterways.

Tickets are not required but a collection will be taken after the show.
